What is East Valley Swim Team?

At East Valley Swim Team, we have designed a quicker method to transform independent young swimmers 5 years of age and older from swimming backyard freestyle to competitive freestyle in as little time as possible.  This method saves parents a lot of time and money.

At East Valley Swim Team, we strive to provide superior stroke instruction at an accelerated pace in all four competitive strokes so the swimmers can advance to the competitive level significantly sooner than competitors and with stroke technique that will provide them long term success.

Our Story

East Valley Swim Team was formed out of a need to provide displaced competitive swimmers a new home to fulfill their desires to achieve swimming excellence and reach their fullest potential. These elite swimmers’ former club changed its policy to allow “club members only,” which forced many of the team participants including Coach Maria to leave in search for a new pool.

Through word of mouth, the resulting swim team steadily grew and a developmental group was formed to provide new, younger swimmers an opportunity to learn sound stroke techniques at a Fast Track pace, which opened up an accelerated option for these swimmers to advance to the competitive group.

Mission

Our coaching philosophy provides top-quality stroke instruction using a fast track  system that advances young swimmers to the next skill level more quickly and encourages the development of each swimmer to his or her fullest potential. We encourage a small class size environment to promote individualized coaching at each skill level, resulting in a team of quality swimmers trained to achieve optimal performance.

Goal

The goal of East Valley Swim Team is to share the Fast Track system of providing superior swim instruction with any young independent swimmer who want to dedicate themselves to reach their fullest potential in swimming.

Testimonials

When my boy transferred from another swim club to Coach Maria's club, he just had a little interest in swimming, the only reason he went to swimming practice was he  wanted to have some play time with other kids in the swimming pool. But Coach Maria changed this. After a couple months with Coach Maria, I found my boy started to be eager to go to swimming practice, he told me he loved Coach Maria's lessons: hard but not boring, it was fun. After one year's practice with Coach, the improvements were so significant, my boy obtained the state qualifications on some events, he was so excited to be able to compete with top swimmers in this state. Coach Maria is very passionate about teaching these young swimmers, she has magic fingers to motivate kids loving swimming, focusing on details of techniques and trying hard on their extremes. She is very strict on the lessons, but is very nice and open when she is not  on lessons, all kids love to talk with her and share what they do in their daily life.  Actually, we all love her!

My family has known Coach Maria for eight years now. She was the Age Group coach for my daughter at 7 years old. Aside from coach Maria’s impressive years of coaching experience, we also speak highly of her true passion in helping young children become  successful swimmers. Her ability to teach young children how to swim with great precision, form and technique is very admirable. It takes a great deal of patience and dedication to teach these swimmers to develop good swimming habits. We see all these great qualities in Coach Maria.  She is very dedicated and works so hard to make these young swimmers successful in and out of the pool.

Maria is a very kind, compassionate and intuitive swim coach. She has helped me be comfortable in the water and have improved after just one session with her.

Before we joined Coach Maria, my son had been swimming for five years already. But he never got anywhere, not even to the “B list."  The only reason I came to Coach Maria is that her team was nearest to my home. By then, I have already given up hope that swimming could lead my son anywhere. “Just for some exercise” is what I told Coach Maria when I joined the team. What I did not know is that I accidentally got Alex to a “fast track." In less than a year’s training with Coach Maria, he got to “B List” on almost all strokes, then a couple of “A-Lists." He even got to participate in this year’s State Championship. That is just unbelievable.

FAQs

Developmental I Program FAQs

1. What makes East Valley Swim Team (EVST) different from other swim schools/swim teams in the valley?

We teach superior stroke technique at a fast-track pace helping parents save time and money. We strive to group swimmers with similar abilities while maintaining smaller class size.  Coach Maria has developed a teaching method that helps young swimmers pick up skills easily helping swimmers advance to the next level sooner. At EVST, we focus on swimming excellence while having fun. Swimmers don't come to play; they come to learn and have fun.

2. If we have to miss a team practice, will there be a make-up session?

The rate is a monthly rate. You get more for your money if you attend as many practices as possible. Unfortunately, due to facility schedule, make-up practices cannot be scheduled. We discourage missing practices unless absolutely necessary, because the swimmer falls behind. This program is designed to progress to different strokes starting with freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Once the swimmer can hold technique and swim legally based on USA Swimming standards in all four strokes and perform forward dives, he or she can move up to Developmental II.

Our goal is to move swimmers up to the next level as quickly as possible without compromising stroke technique so they can have the opportunity to take their swim skills to the next level sooner. The sooner this can occur, the better for our team and the more savings for parents.

3. When do you recommend private lessons?

Private lessons may be needed if a swimmer shows extreme difficulty with maintaining consistent attention or with adjusting to social settings thereby causing disruption, taking significant time away from the group. Proper steps will be utilized to achieve acceptable behavior, and these usually work. Private lessons may also be recommended to swimmers who fall behind on group practices.

4. Is there a long-term contract required to join the team?

No. But if you plan to take a break for at least one month, a 30-day written notice PRIOR to the beginning of the month is required to suspend billing. So, for example, if you plan to take a break in the month of December, written notice should be provided no later than October 31.

5. Can my swimmer swim only during the summer months and leave during the winter?

Yes. However, your swimmer's progress will be halted, and, in many cases, they forget what they learned and have to restart. It takes repetition and consistency overtime to develop muscle memory of skills learned. We find that those swimmers who stay in the program for many years develop higher level skills, confidence and achievement than seasonal swimmers.
